Packaging

Making handcrafted items is rather fun untill you have to decide what to put the product into.  Do you want to use glass or good recyclable plastic like PET containers.  It has been a question I’ve had for quite some time.  I know when I am done with any plastic, I will throw it away.  I don’t see much reuse in these types of containers especially being plastic.

I do still carry some plastic containers currently, but I am switching over to glass, mainly cobalt boston round glass.  I love the blue look and you can reuse it for so many things.  It’s great for decoration and multipurpose uses.  Now the down side to using glass is the cost of shipping because it is heavier and you have to add the weight of the handmade product that is put inside each bottle or jar.

I have bought yogurt that was packaged in glass jars and I actually have a ton of them around the house and even at work.  I found uses for them!

My goal is less waste and the ability to reuse items.  The lip balms can be in tins or I’m looking to expand and put balms into kraft paperboard tubes, which is very eco friendly and you can simply toss them when your done.
